Description

The second of the the two operational 2-8-0s at the CRRM, as well as fourth of all 2-8-0s on the grounds, (#318 is inside the roundhouse being restored and is coming along very well, and #44 is currently in pieces scattered around the museum), #40 is a Baldwin-built outside frame 2-8-0 originally built for a Railroad in Guatemala. (I believe #44 was as well.)

#40, along with Shays #12 and #14, operated on the Georgetown Loop railroad for years, before finding its way to the Colorado Railroad Museum. At one point it spent a brief tenure on the White Pass and Yukon railroad in Alaska, but is now back home, and along with #44, will not return to Alaska.

Like Shay #12, I have grown up, and seen this engine operate both on the Loop, and here at the Museum, and it is a splendid, hard worker, and is a joy to hear and see in action. :D
